Firm to build thermal pool complex in city

Sir Robert McAlpine has inked a construction management deal to build a resort complex in Manchester called Therme Manchester.

The job will be built at Trafford City and is being masterminded by a joint venture of specialist wellbeing developer Therme and private equity firm CVC.

McAlpine has been on PCSA for the job but has now been formally confirmed as CM on the deal which is believed to be worth £450m.

How the scheme will look when completed

The complex is being marketed as “the largest thermal pool complex in Europe under one roof” and includes indoor and outdoor space, botanical gardens, immersive art, multiple steam rooms and more than 25 water slides as well as a wave pool for children and families.

The scheme is being built at the former Event City exhibition and conference venue which closed in 2021 a decade after being opened.
