Architects were challenged to 'break convention and deliver a new typology in housing design'

Six architects have been shortlisted to rethink the family home for a £300m development in North Shore in Stockton-on-Tees.

K2 Architects, Impromptu Arquitectos, Tasou Associates, Spine Architects, Bertolone Plazzogna and Loates-Taylor Shannon Architects were shortlisted from over 100 entries.

The competition has been organised by Urban Splash and Muse Developments in conjunction with the RIBA and ΢Ȧ's sister magazine BD.

The competition briefing asked for houses that would “break convention and deliver a new typology in housing design”.

The £300m North Shore development will see at least 250 family homes built by Tees Valley Regeneration alongside office and leisure buildings and a new university campus.

K2, Tasou Associates and Loares-Taylor Shannon Architects are from the UK, while Spine Architects is from Germany, Bertolone Plazzogna from Italy and Impromptu Arquitectos from Portugal.

A winner will be announced next month.
