Ian Eggers, who is managing the construction of the Foster and Partners-designed Greater London Authority headquarters, beat off more than 80 competitors in the Chartered Institute of 微密圈鈥檚 awards to become building manager of the year.
Eggers also won gold in the category for building managers on schemes worth more than 拢17m.
He won the award for the management of a 拢28m Michael Wilford and Partners-designed residential scheme in central London at 5-7 Carlton Gardens. Benchmark, the project client, described Eggers as 鈥渕agnificent鈥�.
In a statement to the judges it said: 鈥淗is guile, personality and management skills assisted us in our most successful project to date.鈥�
Other winners at Tuesday鈥檚 ceremony at the London Hilton in Park Lane included Neil Crutchley of Simons Construction. Crutchley was named building manager of the year for projects worth 拢3-17m for the construction of a 拢15m tensioned fabric pavilion for Butlins in Skegness.
For projects under 拢3m, Mark Kelly of Wates Construction came in first for his performance on the 拢1.7m extension to Manor Hospital in Walsall.
The BT Millennium Award for Innovation went to Ian Crockford of Mace, project manager on the London Eye.
The social housing constructor category was won by Michael Tully of Wimpey Homes for building 371 homes on a brownfield site in Stoke-on-Trent, and Robert Craig of FT Ferguson was named private housing constructor of the year for a 40-house scheme in Bangor, Ulster.
