Contractor snaps up £36m turnover firm for undisclosed sum

Bowmer & Kirkland has bought London fit-out contractor Denton for an undisclosed sum.

Denton, which also has offices in Manchester and Liverpool, was set up in 1996 by founder Mike Halewood and in its last of accounts filed at Companies House posted a turnover flat at £36.5m in the year to March 2024. Staff numbers were also flat at 56.

But pre-tax profit at the firm, which trades as Denton Associates, fell 21% to £1.8m with the company saying it had been hit by delayed starts on key contracts.

Denton specialises in Cat A and Cat B fit outs and its roster of clients have included social media company LinkedIn and food firm Kraft Heinz. As well as the UK, it works overseas in Europe and the Middle East.

B&K chairman Jack Kirkland said: “[Denton’s] track record of growth, creativity and client focus makes them a natural fit with our values. As part of the Bowmer & Kirland Group, we can expand opportunities, deliver larger and more ambitious projects.”

In its last set of results, B&K edged turnover up 4% to £1.3bn in the year to August 2024. Pre-tax profit was up nearly one third to £69m.

The firm recently won a £50m deal to build a secondary school in Cramlington, Northumberland.
